TELEVISION Lower Herring Lake’s own Andrea Maio is hard at work on the pilot for a TV documentary series to be called Back to Your Senses. Maio is one of the first-ever filmmakers to participate in Mobcaster, a new crowdsource fundraising site and viewing platform especially for television. If Maio reaches her goal of $15,000 in pledges by the end of the day on Friday this week, she will be able to produce the pilot, which will air on Mobcaster and continue to be funded by its fans. Maio’s show concerns the ways in which Americans are adjusting to economic collapse by leaping into pursuit of sometimes far-fetched dreams. Among the subjects examined are several Northern Michigan folks and their projects, including a nascent Leelanau distillery and the Elberta Alert newspaper! Consider supporting our fellow local-mediatician and help her show the rest of the country how we roll in the Mitten.
LOCAL MUSIC SPEAKEASY Dede Alderman and the Dreamers will perform at Dan Kelly‘s house on Crystal Lake on Friday, January 6, at 7:30 pm. The multitalented Ms. Alderman performs her original compositions on drums, vibes, and her own vocal cords. Don’t miss this chance to experience her and her collaborator Jason Schewe in this intimate lakeside setting. As always at Dan’s place, dancing will happen. 4077 Crystal Drive.
FREE FILM SCREENING Charlie’s Natural Food Market will show the documentary Forks over Knives, an indictment of our animal-based and highly processed food system and its effects on our health. The film examines the evidence that a vegetarian/vegan diet can prevent and even reverse some of humanity’s most common deadly afflictions, including cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Discussion will surely follow. Tuesday, January 10, at 7 pm.
