In Calendar on January 15, 2012 at 5:42 pm

Monday, January 16

  • 6 pm–7 pm Public Forum  on Elberta Dunes South Natural Area, Village Community Building. Come out and help determine how this 50+ acre parcel will be used in the coming years. Learn more about the natural area, discuss activities and improvements, and hear what the park’s management committee have been dreaming up.
  • 7 pm Regular Meeting of the Village Council, to follow Elberta Dunes Natural Area public forum. Note that Council meets on Monday this month because of high school basketball.

Thursday, January 19

  • Wine Dinner at the Mayfair Tavern. Enjoy a fabulous repast and gaze upon the artifacts at Elberta’s best restaurant–cum–maritime museum. The Mayfair building is in foreclosure and Heather and Tom are working on a plan to stay in business. The tavern is open only for wine dinners for the next few months. Show them some love! Seating begins at 6 pm. Call Heather at 231-360-8292 to reserve.

Friday, January 20

  • BACN’s Chase the Chill Food Drive. Donate what you can to others in need by placing your donations in any area collection box, located in your schools, businesses, organizations, and faith communities beginning January 20, 2012 until February 4. BACN will take money donations during the same time period—a gift of $100 buys 350 meals. Monetary donations can be made at the BACN web site www.benziebacon.org or mailed to P.O. Box 93, Benzonia, MI 49616. This winter’s Chase the Chill seeks to fill one half of a semi with nonperishable food items.
  • Are you brave enough to face Benzie’s favorite cryptid? The Garden Theater presents the Frankfort premiere of Rich Brauer’s film Dogman. Rich Brauer himself will be on hand Friday night, with ticket sales benefiting Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital. Put on your finest cinemawear and you may just appear in the Elberta Alert‘s first-ever style section. $15 on Friday; 6:30 pm reception, 7 pm remarks by Rich Brauer, followed by film. Purchase tickets in advance at Hull’s, Frankfort Chamber, POMH Gift Shop or the theater box office. Saturday (4 pm and 7 pm), adults $8, kids $6; and Sunday (4 pm), all tickets $6. For information contact JoAnne Holwerda at 231-352-7241.
