Wednesday, April 11 Come hear beautiful stories about youth in Benzie County, written by high school kids, at the Mills Community House Bruce Catton Awards Ceremony at 7 pm. Refreshments to follow.

Friday, April 13 Frankfort–Elberta Elementary holds its Kindergarten Roundup testing for every-day school for kids who will be 5 by December 1. Call 352-7601 to set up an appointment for this day. Then 0pen your heart and open a vein at the Benzie Central Blood Drive. MI Blood will give $10 for each donation and those proceeds will go to the Animal Welfare League. 9 am to 2 pm. Then, see if you get lucky at the Cabbage Shed Sock Hop! 6 pm to 9 pm

Saturday, April 14 The 2nd annual Benzie Community Water Council 2012 Water Festival splashes down at Frankfort–Elberta High School. Discuss the responsibilities of living in the most beautiful place in America! Workshops and children’s activities, as well as connections to campaigns and projects to protect our water locally and address global challenges. At 1:30 Timothy Young of Food for Thought leads a panel discussion on new possibilities for entrepreneurship. Meet live reptiles and amphibians, eat delicious local food, and listen to homesprung local music by the Fauxgrass Quartet and Song of the Lakes. More details.

Wednesday, April 18 Clean out your files by taking up to three bags or boxes of shredables to the Benzie  Community Resource Center from 10 am to 2 pm. Shredded material goes to the Benzie Organic Solutions for use as worm bedding. Take that, Countrywide! 6051 Frankfort Hwy. Then Lou Yock speaks on The History of Benzonia College, 7 pm at Benzie Shores District Library

Wednesday, April 18 Regular monthly Beach Cleanup with Sue Oseland. Meet down at the beach parking lot at 10 am.

Thursday, April 19 Village Council Regular Meeting, at the Village Community Building, 401 First St. Reg Manville is away, so Diane Jenks will be presiding. On the agenda: hiring a new Farmers’ Market Master, among other things. 7 pm

Friday, April 20 Mike Jones of Benzie Conservation District speaks on the emerald ash borer, beech bark disease, and other changes in the Michigan landscape. 12 noon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Sponsored by the Periwinkle Garden Club.

Saturday, April 21 Friends of Betsie Bay Beach-to-Beach Cleanup. Meet at the Farmers’ Market Park Pavilion at 9 am. Then go have free ham, scalloped potatoes, ice cream sundaes, and fellowship at the Elberta United Methodist Community Dinner from 4 pm to 6 pm. 555 Lincoln Ave.

Wednesday, April 25 E-Drinks at the Cabbage Shed. 5 pm to 6:30 pm. A gathering to discuss a new era of local entrepreneurship possibilities. All are welcome. Then at 7 pm, the Zoning Board of Appeals Hearing on Bay Valley Inn/Putney property for the community to discuss the denial of a land use application to put labor housing in the former Bay Valley Inn. Village Community Building, 401 First St.

Thursday, April 26 Public Safety Committee Meeting with Sheriff Rory Heckman to discuss county security issues. Benzie County Sheriff’s Office 505 S. Michigan Ave., Beulah. 6 pm

Friday, April 27 Beginning at 10 pm at the Cabbage Shed, you may find yourself wearing a toga and dancing, led by Elberta’s favorite Pied Piper of Partying Down, Josh Herren.

Saturday, April 28 Frankfort–Elberta Schools Spring Fling. Your $25 at the door helps fund educational events and programs. You can also shell out $20 in advance at the schools or Chamber and let them earn a little interest before you eat hors d’oeuvres. Oliver Art Center, 132 East Coast Guard Road, Frankfort. 7 pm to 10 pm.

Sunday, April 29 Job Fair sponsored by the Benzie Area Zonta Club. Come out and learn what employment opportunities are out there, hand out some résumés and get to know your future boss in a festival setting. 231-882-4193. Mills Community House. 12 noon to 4 pm
